Native, a New Exhibit Opening at gallery F, March 13
Native – Opening Reception at gallery F
Native presents five unexpected artistic perspectives on Native North American culture. Through photography, painting, indoor and outdoor installation, and performance video, artists ranging in age from 24- to 72-years-old portray their connections with the Choctaw, Ojibwe, Zapotec, Cherokee, Kiowa, Wichita, and Chickasaw tribes. Traditional assumptions about native art are simultaneously validated and destroyed, as the pieces in this exhibition pay homage to native culture while departing from traditional native artistic expression.
The Whites Creek Band will play music, and refreshments will be provided. The exhibition runs through May 24; an artists’ talk will take place on April 13 at 7 p.m.
Additionally, gallery F’s artists-in-residence will open their studios for a tour during the opening reception. Stop in to see the work of Patricia Earnhardt, Sara Estes, Matt Christy, Jen Georgescu, Marcie Little, Jared Freihoefer, Ryan Hogan, Channing Bailey, Brandon Donahue and Sabine Schlunk. A shuttle will be provided for transportation between gallery F and the studios. Visit www.scarrittbennett.org for more information.
