In my 20 years working as an interior designer, I’ve often been in search of special artwork for my clients. Recently I have been able to place a very special piece by Elizabeth Brandon, which passes the test of time. What’s so wonderful about this piece is that every time I view it, I enjoy it more and more. Peonies are my favorite flowers, and the quality of the work, the cheerfulness of it, and the composition all speak to me.

This piece is a favorite painting of mine and also of my client’s, and hence she has become a collector of Brandon’s work. It’s one of those pieces that, when you put it in a room, it makes you happy. It is in an absolutely perfect setting for it—over the mantel in a sunny room.

Elizabeth Brandon is an award-winning painter in the Poetic Realist tradition. After receiving her B.F.A. from the University of Georgia, Elizabeth began her training in the concepts and principles of the master artists, with intensive training at the acclaimed Art Students League of New York. She has dedicated her career to the study of the techniques of Rembrandt, Rubens and other Realist artists and has become an accomplished artist whose work resides in public and private collections around the nation and abroad. Her art has graced the cover of Cook’s Illustrated magazine for seven years, and she has recently taken time off from painting to write and illustrate a children’s book she hopes to publish. Her painting Afternoon Stroll has been accepted in the 126th Annual Members Exhibition at the Salmagundi Club in New York—a world-respected center for fine arts. She is a native of Nashville, and her work is currently on display at the Governor’s mansion and in select galleries.
