Publisher’s Note

By JeffStamper on January 4, 2010

Growing up in Massachusetts my aspiration was to be a writer. It did seem like I was well on my way to success in that career path when at 15 years old and a sophomore in high school I had a very short story published in Seventeen magazine that paid the whopping sum of $100.

Since that time my home state has become Tennessee, and my city of choice is Nashville. I am the in-house project manager at Lithographics, and each month my special charge is the printing of Nashville Arts, a beautiful magazine chock full of many styles of original art and stories that promote the art, history and industry of this state I’ve grown to love and call home.

By the time the graphic design files come in, I have written the job ticket with specific instructions for every department involved and have ordered the paper. Files sent by the graphic designer are downloaded, pre-flighted, and proofed in our Electronic Pre-press department. After the final proof is approved and signed off on, the pace accelerates dramatically. Nashville Arts Magazine is on press about 16 hours. Even before the last magazine signature has finished printing on press, the folding has begun in the bindery. Folding the large, 16-page signatures will take another 16 hours before the magazines can be collated, stitched and trimmed on a large machine called a saddle stitcher. As the magazines are counted coming off the stitcher, they are boxed and prepared to be shipped to the Nashville Arts warehouse.

To say that we at Lithographics are proud to be the print partner for Nashville Arts Magazine would be an understatement. We are thankful for the opportunity and hugely thrilled to be helping showcase and support the arts in Nashville.

Happy New Year, Tennessee!
