Spotlight | New Public Art

By NashvilleArtsTeam on June 29, 2010

Citizen photographed by Gary LaydaNashville recently welcomed its newest “citizen,” and, judging from appearances, he is friendly, tall, and artsy. Citizen is actually a glass and metal sculpture that features a male and female figure. North Carolina artist Thomas Sayre was chosen in 2006 to design a sculpture for Nashville’s Public Square Park. Citizen reaches with hand outstretched and can be moved by pulley system to face different parts of the city.

The interactive landmark was dedicated by Mayor Karl Dean in a public ceremony on June 10. For more information, visit www.artsnashville.org.
