Publisher’s Note | February 2011

By NashvilleArtsTeam on February 1, 2011

February 2011Despite the historic flood of 2010 and an uncertain economy, the visual arts in Metro Nashville prevailed. It was a blockbuster season for the Frist Center with The Golden Age of Couture, Chihuly, and The Birth of Impressionism: Masterworks from the Musée d’Orsay. We gratefully acknowledge the generosity of Cheekwood, the Nashville Symphony, Nashville Opera, and TPAC, our collaborators on Chihuly.

Previous and future cooperation among local cultural organizations maximizes our resources and serves the public efficiently. The establishment of affordable housing for artists at Rolling Mill Hill will further stimulate business development, attract new residents, and enhance Nashville’s reputation as one of the country’s leading creative communities.

In 2011, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts celebrates its tenth anniversary. Restoring and repurposing the former Post Office, we found the perfect home for art from around the world and around the corner. Early in the year, we will present the first exhibition to explore the many avatars of Vishnu: Hinduism’s Blue-Skinned Savior and William Eggleston: Anointing the Overlooked, an exhibition of photographs by the world-renowned Memphis artist. With these exhibitions and those that follow, we hope to stimulate your curiosity, introduce you to a new way of seeing the world through art, offer quiet contemplation, or simply delight you.
