A few years ago i was introduced to the other John Mellencamp. Not the one who has written some of the most memorable songs to grace the airwaves, but the one whose paintings strike a very different nerve. So we were thrilled to be invited to his home studio to talk with him about his art and his upcoming exhibit at the Tennessee State Museum opening April 12. Make no mistake, this is no Johnny-come-lately to the painters’ party. This is a serious artist who also happens to be a great musician. Don’t miss this one.
And talking of great art, Gary Haynes opened his gallery on Division to a collective “shock and awe” from the art community. Focusing on American Realism and with a healthy offering of work from the Wyeths, it is a visual treat. Go visit Haynes Galleries!
This month we announce our annual photo contest (details on page 67). Here’s an interesting take on taking a shot by our very own Sophia Forbes. We look forward to your entries.
Nashville Arts Magazine will be hosting the Collectors Art Night on 5th Avenue April 6. Come join us beginning with the Arts Company at 5:30 as we work our way to the Rymer Gallery and Tinney Contemporary. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists, ask questions, and hopefully take a stunning piece of art home with you. Reservations are required. Email email@example.com. We’ll see you there.
