Learn from a Master
by Deborah Walden
Kids and adults benefit from the nationally recognized educators at LeQuire Gallery in June. For adults, Seattle’s Juliette Aristides, a modern master of figure drawing, will host a lecture/demonstration and a series of two-day workshops this month. Painter Maggie Rose travels from New York to lead Sunday sessions throughout June. LeQuire Gallery Summer Camp for Kids offers fun, interactive workshops taught by some of Middle Tennessee’s most beloved artists. The “Artist-A-Day” experience allows students to experiment with new media and new perspectives. Teachers include Donna Rizzo, Brenda Stein, Olen Bryant, and Jim Sherraden, among others. Owner Alan LeQuire, famous for Nashville’s Athena and Musica sculptures, has taught open-studio classes for over 25 years. He sees education as a key aspect of his work as an artist and gallery owner. LeQuire claims, “Exposing kids to professional artists wakes them up and opens their minds.”
