TPAC and Theater Bug tackle a difficult subject with Theater!

7 Ways to Sunday Press Photo

7 Ways to Sunday explores teen depression and suicide, with the goal of creating awareness and encouraging conversations that could save lives. In addition to sharing the art with as many people as possible, the preview’s purpose is to seek input from teachers, administrators, guidance counselors, medical professionals, youth workers, etc., before presenting a larger production for student audiences. According to the TN Suicide Prevention Network, we lost 1,065 people to suicide in 2015 (all ages), making Tennessee’s rate of suicide higher than it has been in the last 10 years. That’s three people a day and one person every eight hours. Tennessee’s rate continues to be higher than the national rate (TN loses 15.6 per 100,000; US loses 13.3 per 100,000), and suicide continues to be the second cause of death for ages 10-24.

The performance is free. Theater Bug, www.thetheaterbug.org, and TPAC Education, are working together to present an “educator preview” of 7 Ways to Sunday on Feb. 2 at 6:00 p.m. Please join us and become informed. For more information, visit www.tpac.org.
