CHEEK FAMILY EXHIBITION OFFERS INTIMATE GLIMPSE OF LIFE AT CHEEKWOOD

In honor of our 50th anniversary, Cheekwood is offering guests an intimate glimpse into life at the Cheekwood mansion. The Cheek family lived a life of privilege and was fortunate enough to surround themselves with the highest quality furnishings and decor. The extensive collection of items currently on display reflects that luxury, and paints a vivid picture of the opulent life experienced at Cheekwood. “Our guests are always curious to see more from the Cheek family,” said Claire Corby, Cheekwood’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “We are delighted to be able to display personal items, such as Mrs. Cheek’s beautiful wedding dress, and the splendid furnishings from the home that allow our guests to learn more about this extraordinary family.” Cheek Family History In January of 1933, the Cheek family took up residence at Cheekwood. Mr. Leslie Cheek, his wife Mabel, their son Leslie, Jr. and daughter Huldah lived in the house a short two years before Mr. Cheek passed away at the age of 61. In 1943, Mabel Cheek deeded the property to Huldah and her husband, Walter Sharp. The Sharps, prominent supporters of the arts in Nashville, made Cheekwood their permanent residence until 1958. They generously donated the mansion and surrounding 55 acres to be converted into a botanical garden and museum of art.

Cheekwood is a 55-acre botanical garden and art museum located on the historic Cheek estate. Cheekwood exists to celebrate and preserve its landscape, buildings, and art and botanical collections, and, through these unique means provide an inspiring place for visitors to explore their connections with art, nature and the environment. Cheekwood is located at 1200 Forrest Park Drive in Nashville, 8 miles southwest of downtown Nashville. Open Tuesday – Saturday 9:30 am – 4:30 pm and Sunday 11 am – 4:30 pm.
