As part of the Indeterminacies series at Zeitgeist Gallery, Mac Pirkle, Patricia Earnhardt, and David Earnhardt, will create an interactive experience for participants that explores the use of the documentary approach to personal stories. Participants are encouraged to bring a camera, or a smart phone that has a camera.

Technology has helped create a new, ubiquitous way to communicate personal stories. Social media and media display sites (YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Twitter) have revolutionized the way we communicate – from the mundane (“I just woke up, going to take a shower”), to the profound (think about Iran’s recent demonstrations).  Equipment is no longer a barrier: many phones can shoot video, Flip cameras are reasonable priced. These stories can now be distributed world wide and without cost.  They can be viewed by millions, be sent as an intimate, personal communication to your family or friends, or go virtually unnoticed.

The night starts from a premise that every person has a story.  From there, participants will explore and pursue some of those stories.

Mac Pirkle spent much of his career in the theatre, and founded the Tennessee Repertory Theatre.

Patricia Earnhardt is a visual artist in Nashville, currently working as part of Gallery F.

David Earnhardt began his career working in affiliate TV stations, including WTVF in Nashville.

Mac, Patricia and David are partners in Earnhardt Pirkle – a video production company in Nashville founded 16 years ago by David and Patricia.  In 2008 the company produced and distributed David’s full length documentary UNCOUNTED – The New Math of American Elections.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at 6:00pm at Zeitgeist 1819 21st Ave. South.
